7 Things Sunday

One. ArtForceIowa received honorable mention for the Governor’s Arts Awards at the Iowa Arts Summit on Friday! YEAH! I enjoyed this event immensely. It was inspiring to see and hear of all the efforts Iowans are making to bring arts and culture to life in the homeland. Our enrollment is up. Screen printing is off to a great start. Our DSM Immigrant Heroes video workshop starts this week. Work life is good, people.

Two. Saturday I played in the rain with my friend Kim. I don’t know the last time I did that. It was so fun. You don’t even understand.

Three. I went to see ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ by myself Thursday night. This is the second time I’ve gone to a movie solo (the first time was to see the Hilary Duff movie, ‘Raise Your Voice’ circa 2004. I don’t know why I’m admitting that). I knew that going opening night would be entertaining because the people that go movies opening night are the die hard fans. It was exactly what I expected. Everyone laughed, gasped, and awwww’ed in unison. At one point I giggled quietly to myself as I heard really loud, audible sobs coming from all over (to be honest, it’s not really a point in time…people are bawling their eyes out the whole last half of the movie). I didn’t even really feel alone because I made friends with the girl next to me. Her name is Chloe and she’s a junior in high school. We love all the same TV shows, we swapped book recommendations, and she shared her Kleenex with me.

Five. The past couple of weeks have been so full of late night social events and a crazy work schedule that my routine has been completely and utterly destroyed. My body is telling me that there is such a thing as too much eating, drinking, and being merry. This week I’m refocusing: more sleep. more exercise. more quiet time.

Six. I love the Ink App. With Ink you are able to design a full-image postcard. You can insert your photos into pre-made layouts (there is a huge variety to choose from) and send them out right from your phone. They mail it for you. I’ve sent out thank you, birthday, holiday, and just because cards this way. It’s SO easy and only $1.98! You can make calendar cards, too. Hit it up.

Seven. I mentioned it before, but I’ve been working at practicing mindfulness. I felt like I had a breakthrough this week. Being mindful helped me be more brave, forward, direct, etc. when I needed to be because I’ve been more considerate of where my head and heart are really at. Booya.
